The Professional Standards Authority (PSA) now judges JCCP and Save Face against the same Standards it uses for statutory regulators such as the NMC and GMC. A recent Targeted Review of Save Face shows exactly what that scrutiny looks like in practice, and what it should tell you about relying on any accredited register.
What changed: one Standards framework for regulators and registers
Published on 19 March 2026, the PSA's new Standards for Regulators and Accredited Registers replace the separate frameworks that previously applied to statutory bodies and voluntary registers. They took effect on 1 July 2026 and cover around 10 statutory regulators and 28 Accredited Registers, representing more than two million practitioners across health and social care. The stated aim is that the public gets the same level of protection whichever type of body oversees a practitioner, with sharper expectations on governance, professional suitability, safeguarding and collaboration between organisations.
Why it matters for JCCP and Save Face
In non-surgical aesthetics, JCCP and Save Face are the two PSA Accredited Registers clinics and patients most commonly encounter, alongside the statutory registers such as the NMC, GMC, GDC and GPhC that individual clinicians already hold. Neither JCCP nor Save Face is a legal licence to practise; joining either is voluntary. From July 2026, though, both are assessed against the same unified Standards as the statutory regulators, including explicit expectations on equality, diversity and inclusion and on how clearly the public can verify a registrant's status.
Save Face's 2026 targeted review, a live example
Following its 2026/27 annual PSA check, Save Face was subject to a Targeted Review that resulted in three Conditions of Accreditation, published by the PSA on 18 June 2026. Save Face must make its public register clearer for patients checking a registrant, within six months; put in place demographic data collection to understand diversity in its registrant base, by its next renewal; and publish clear information on how it complies with the Equality Act 2010, within three months. The PSA noted that no further Targeted Review was currently deemed necessary.
What clinic owners and practitioners should take from this
Accreditation is not a static badge; it is an ongoing relationship with conditions, deadlines and public reporting attached. When you check whether a practitioner is on the JCCP or Save Face register, or decide which register to join yourself, it is worth remembering both are actively monitored against the same Standards used for statutory regulators. Keep your own credentials, indemnity and training records equally verifiable and current, since accessible evidence is exactly what the PSA is now pushing every accredited body to deliver.
