No UK prescriber, whether physician, dentist, pharmacist, or nurse, can legally prescribe Botox or another injectable cosmetic medicine after only a video call or phone consultation. The General Medical Council, General Dental Council, General Pharmaceutical Council, and Nursing and Midwifery Council all require a face-to-face assessment before the prescription is written, and each regulator treats a violation as a fitness-to-practice matter. The rule has tightened steadily since the GMC's original ban in 2012, and the NMC's own update took effect on June 1, 2025. For practitioners building virtual consultation models, knowing exactly where the video call must stop and the in-person visit must begin is essential.
